Sulaiman on Fasting: You must behave with serenity and dignity while fasting

Ibn Mubarak reported: Sulaiman ibn Musa said, “When you fast, then let your hearing, seeing, and tongue fast from lies and do not harm your servants. You must behave with serenity and dignity. Do not make the days you fast the same as days you are not fasting.”

عن ابن مبارك قَالَ قَالَ سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ مُوسَى إِذَا صُمْتَ فَلْيَصُمْ سَمْعُكَ وَبَصَرُكَ وَلِسَانُكَ عَنِ الْكَذِبِ وَدَعْ عَنْكَ أَذَى الْخَادِمِ وَلْيَكُنْ عَلَيْكَ سَكِينَةٌ وَوَقَارٌ وَلا تَجْعَلْ يَوْمَ صَوْمِكَ وَيَوْمَ فِطْرِكَ سَوَاءً
452 الزهد والرقائق لابن المبارك باب ذم الرياء والعجب وغير ذلك
