Al-Ma’ruf reported: A man arrived in Bastam claiming the right of authority. Abu Yazeed went to him and when he met him, he saw the man spitting in the direction of prayer (al-qiblah). Abu Yazeed said, “He has not been given any manners from the manners and tradition of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, so how can he be given authority?”

عن المعروف قال حَضَرَ بِسْطَامَ رَجُلٌ ادَّعَى الْوَلايَةَ فَقَامَ أَبُو يَزِيدَ إِلَيْهِ وَزَارَهُ فَبَزَقَ الرَّجُلُ نَحْوَ الْقِبْلَةِ فَقَالَ أَبُو يَزِيدَ لا يُعْطِي أَدَبًا مِنْ آدَابِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَسُنَّتِهِ كَيْفَ يُعْطَى الْوَلايَةَ
