Ka’b ibn Alqamah reported: When the Prophet Moses, peace and blessings be upon him, had gone out fleeing from Pharaoh, he said, “O Lord, instruct me.” Allah said, “I enjoin you never to make anything equal to me, as you must choose me over anything else. Verily, for those who do not act this way I will not show mercy nor purify them.” Moses said, “O Lord, what else?” Allah said, “Treat your mother well, for she has carried you in weakness upon weakness.” Moses said, “O Lord, then what else?” Allah said, “Treat your father well.” Moses said, “O Lord, then what else?” Allah said, “You must love for people what you love for yourself, and hate for them what you hate for yourself.”
